Loft by LIEU

Sleeps 12

A converted 19th-century wine cellar in the south of France

Set in the small village of Villedaigne in the heart of the Pays Cathare in southern France, surrounded by Cathar castles, vineyards, olive and palm trees, Loft by Lieu sits a stone's throw from the Mediterranean coast, close to the endless beaches of the Aude, the historic walled city of Carcassonne, and the trendy southern French city of Montpellier, with the romantic Canal du Midi flowing just beyond the village. Situated above street level, the loft holds a panoramic view across the rooftops of Villedaigne.

Once the wine cellar of a working domaine where farmers drove tractors full of grapes through the large arched gates at harvest, the property has been transformed into a three-hundred-square-metre holiday home with the original gates reimagined as large arched windows that flood the interior with light. The loft sits under tall, sturdy rafters with seamless poured floors and an eclectic interior of design and vintage furniture, sleeping up to twelve across six bedrooms each with its own sink, with a fully equipped open kitchen at its centre, a four-metre dining table, and patio doors opening onto a garden with a heated saltwater pool and a thatched outdoor lounge corner. Atmospheric outdoor lighting, fairylights under the parasol, and lights in the olive trees provide the evening atmosphere.
