Pollença is a working town in the north of Mallorca, inland from its own port, with a Sunday market in the main square and 365 stone steps climbing from the old town to the chapel on the Calvari. It is one of the few places on the island that feels the same in February as in August. The Tramuntana starts at the edge of town, and Cala Sant Vicenç and the Formentor road are both a short drive.
A protected building of about 150 years, two minutes from the market square, bought and renovated over 2012 to 2014 by Detlef Rahe of Rahe Design in Bremen, who owns it with Ulrike. The historical layout was kept and the new work sits against it: built-in furniture, and a staircase in glass and steel. There are 390 square metres across three floors, with three double bedrooms and a loft bedroom, four bathrooms, two kitchens, two lounges, a library, a studio and a music room with a piano. Outside, terraces with cypress, citrus and olive trees, a covered barbecue, and a saltwater pool with a counterflow. Built to be used in winter as well as summer.
