Casa Plaj

Set on a narrow ridge an hour north of Lisbon, above the green valley sweeping down to the Atlantic on Portugal's Silver Coast and a ten-minute walk from Praia de Porto das Barcas, Casa Plaj sits between sky and landscape with sweeping views across the Lourinhã countryside.

Designed by Lisbon-based architects extrastudio and completed in 2025, the archetypal earth-red form rises from four walls and a cross-shaped podium with cantilevered terraces and warm pigmented lime plaster, the seven-metre-high living area opening through sliding glass doors to the north, east and west, with a kitchen block in rare Portuguese Mármore Verde Serpa marble, smooth concrete floors, and a series of precisely placed oculi that turn the architecture into a sundial through the day.
