A modern chalet in the Carinthian mountains

Chalet Falk sits high in the Nockberge, the rounded, gentle mountains of Carinthia in southern Austria, at 1,323 metres near the village of St. Oswald. The Oswald creek runs through the garden, and larch forest and alpine meadows spread out around it. Carinthia is known for its warm summers, long autumns and unusually sunny winters, along with lakes clear enough to swim in and a serious food culture that runs from mountain huts to Alpe-Adria fine dining. Bad Kleinkirchheim and its golf course are close by, and the area has some of the darkest skies in Europe, so the stars at night are genuinely worth staying up for.

The chalet is run privately by its host, Daniel Marschalt, who greets guests personally and then stays available by phone or WhatsApp rather than hovering. The building itself is contemporary Alpine, reclaimed wood and warm natural materials against clean lines and floor-to-ceiling glass, with the main lounge built around an open fireplace and the mountains framed through the windows. Four suites each have their own bathroom. The spa is entirely private: a panoramic sauna, a relaxation room, and a heated outdoor pool kept at 33 degrees with a built-in jacuzzi, looking out over the creek and the meadows. Breakfast arrives fresh at the door each morning with the essentials already in the fridge, and beyond that the kitchen is yours, or a private chef can be arranged. Massages, private yoga, guides and even heli-skiing can be booked through the host's own network.
