Agger · Thy
Agger is a small fishing village near the southern tip of Thy, on the wild northwest coast of Jutland, set on the narrow spit of land where the North Sea and the Limfjord almost meet. It is big-sky country: dunes and heath, long empty beaches, migrating birds over the Agger Tange and the open sea on one side, the calm fjord on the other. Denmark's first national park, Thy, begins just up the road, and the surf beaches the Danes call Cold Hawaii are a short drive north. A little ferry crosses the channel from the village. It is quiet, weathered and beautiful, and close to nothing in the best way.
Knoten House was designed and handcrafted by Anders Egeberg, a carpenter who grew up nearby, as a modern, durable reading of the Danish summer houses of the 1970s. The care shows in the making: doors, cupboards and kitchen built to a high standard, bathrooms finished in tadelakt, the smooth Moroccan lime plaster, and simple Scandinavian furniture throughout. The plan is open and easy, a living, cooking and dining space that runs together, three double bedrooms with one that folds away into a playroom or study, and quiet corners kept for reading and looking out. Three terraces mean there is a sunny spot at almost any hour, and the beach is less than five minutes' walk.
