Rødhus · Northern Jutland
One Down sits on one level with the sea, with the surrounding dunes rising like mountains around it. Located in the pristine dunes of Northern Jutland near the village of Rødhus on Denmark's North Sea coast. The house is sheltered behind the rolling sand and grass of the hilly terrain that runs along the western edge of the peninsula.
Designed by Copenhagen-based architect Jan Henrik Jansen and completed in 2022, the house is integrated into the dune landscape rather than placed on top of it, with a low form of exposed concrete and warm light wood, an inner courtyard enclosed by the house and the dunes for shelter from the North Sea winds, and two large windows on the seaward side opening to the horizon, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a sauna for warming up after long beach walks.
