Olive Garden Bungalow

Architecture by Miron Houlakis · Sleeps 4

An H-shaped concrete bungalow in a Cretan olive grove

Set in an olive grove on the south coast of Crete near the hilltop village of Kamilari, with the Messara plain stretching out as a green carpet of olive groves and orchards toward the majestic Psiloritis peak of the Ida Mountains to the north, Olive Garden Bungalow looks out across the landscape from a quiet rural setting close to the beaches at Kommos, Afrathias, and Kalamaki.

Designed by Cretan architect Miron Houlakis and Simon Dahlmeier and completed in 2024, the H-shaped exposed-concrete bungalow divides into two volumes connected by a glazed corridor, one holding an open-plan living room with fireplace and library alongside a kitchen connected through an elongated window to its outdoor counterpart, the other holding two bedrooms with floor-to-ceiling glazing that turns the Ida Mountains into a natural cinema, with two inner courtyards, a long panoramic pool, and a photovoltaic system that produces more electricity than the house consumes.
